Purmorphamine is a cell-permeable 2,6,9-trisubstituted purine compound that induces osteoblast differentiation of multipotent mesenchymal progenitor cells C3H10T1/2 (EC50 = 1 µM) and lineage-committed preosteoblasts MC3T3-E1. Its effect can be synergized with that of BMP-4 (bone morphogenetic protein-4). Purmorphamine induces transdifferentiation even in preadipocytes and myoblasts
